10 Things About Us

As we close in on our 13th year of marriage together, I thought it would be nice to share an official post dedicated to US. For those of you who want to learn a little bit more about me and my hubby, I’m sharing some ‘did you know’ facts that many of you may (or may not) be surprised about. Grab your wine and read on!

When Did We Meet?

Believe it or not, I was only 14 years old when Emil intentionally threw a baseball my way to get my attention. We were at Morningside Park in Scarborough at our respective family parties. We hit it off, however, I lied to him about my age (he was older) and quickly realized that the timing just wasn’t right. Our stars aligned later in life, but we remained good friends for years. Psst … we officially reconnected when bumping into each other at a mutual friend’s party and I was there on a date with someone else!

How long did we date before getting married?

Let’s just say a very long time. In fact, Emil was my prom date! Furthermore, we survived a long-distance relationship while he was away for school in Michigan on a soccer scholarship; despite some ups and downs, he proposed to me in the very same spot we met years before at Morningside Park. That’s a story for another day!

Where did you get married?

Our ceremony was at St. Paul’s Basilica in downtown Toronto (also the same place both our girls were baptized). Our reception was held at Atlantis (iykyk), near Ontario Place! It was a fun night that ended with eating chinese food in bed in our hotel room.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?

We went to Saint Lucia and stayed at the Body Holiday Resort where we enjoyed a pampering session every single day. It was the best. Shortly after we went to Italy and spent time in Rome and the Amalfi Coast. We love both places and still dream of going back … with the girls!

Are we more similar or different?

We are 100% different! He’s the more easy-going one and I always end up being the ‘bad cop’. We both like to be active, but I prefer weights and he prefers running. We also have very different preferences in food - I love a good salad, while he would much rather go for fried rice or noodles! And when it comes to adventure, he’d be the one to sky dive and I would be the one cringing on the side lines. He’s a taurus and I’m a gemini if that tells you anything!

What is our ideal date?

Emil and I both love good food and good wine. Our ideal date always revolves around these two things. We are committed to making date nights a regular thing, however, we have actually never left the girls for a weekend getaway … but that will be in the books very soon.

How did we feel about kids when we first got married?

To be honest, I was initially always ‘one and done’, but Emil would probably love to have 5 or more kids. For me, it wasn’t until Harper was a little older that I considered a second. Today, we are so happy as a family of four! No, we are not trying for a boy (ever).

Where do we see ourselves in 10 years?

We just had this talk a couple of weeks ago and right now we still feel we will be here in Toronto! We love this city, but definitely agree that we want to spend our summers abroad when the girls are out of school. Hopefully, we can retire early and that will change things up a bit. :)

What is our Love Language?

My love language is Words of Affirmation and Emil without a doubt would be Physical Touch!

What is our favourite memory together pre-kids?

We have so many incredible memories together, but one that sticks out in our mind would be a night in Mykonos when we had too much moonshine and made friends with all the stray dogs on the street. We woke up the next day to find a camera full of the funniest memories! Second most fave memory might be when Emil had to wheel chair me out of the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Yikes!
