Stay Sane During Social Distancing

It’s a very uncertain time right now and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t feeling a bit anxious. I’ve been really nervous, but I know I have to be strong (and sane) for my family. I believe in the importance of social distancing to help flatten the curve. I strongly agree that this was implemented not because of fear, but out of love. Here are my 5 tips to staying sane during this social distancing period.

Move it to lose it

I’m not talking about losing weight. I’m talking about losing that anxiety and stress. Movement should be a priority right now and doesn’t have to be overcomplicated. Go for a walk with family, stretch in your living room or have a dance party. Daily movement is a must over the next few weeks!

Don’t Hate, Meditate

Meditation is something we all know we could get a little better at. I’m not here to tell you to go from zero to zen hero in minutes, but even simple breathing can make all the difference. Try taking deep breathes and counting for 5 seconds on your inhale and exhale. Try this for 1 minute and you will already feel the benefits.

Feed Your Brain Healthy Food

It’s easy to succumb to watching the news updates on all things Coronavirus, but this can start to have a negative impact on our brain. It can lead to increased fear and anxiety. Instead reach for a good book or write in your journal. Keep your journal entry simple - even listing 5 things your grateful for or 5 things you are looking forward to will help shift your day.

Life is What you Bake of It

I’m not a master chef by any means, but there really is something so calming about getting your hands dirty in the kitchen. There is also something to be said about getting to enjoy your final product once it’s done. Get the kids involved and bake up a storm this week! We love chocolate chip cookies, muffins and energy balls! Try these Easter Inspired Energy Balls.

Get Outside

Fresh air can really make all the difference! Taking a few moments to step outside to take in some sunshine can change your mood almost instantly.

So Fresh and So Clean, Clean

During this time indoors find some time to organize and declutter your home. I have found that this helps clear my mind - not only the act of doing so, but just having that open space helps me to feel a lot lighter. PS - get the kids to help and they can start to put some old toys away that they want to donate!

Call a Friend

I’ve always been one to pick up my phone and call someone. I prefer talking then texting and I think this goes a long way during times like this. Speaking to someone live supports that human connection that we all miss and crave!

Mind is Everything

The mind is so powerful, so when you catch yourself going down the rabbit hole try and flip the switch by thinking about positive thoughts. Sounds cliché, but the truth is that if you can hold onto thoughts and visions that make you happy you will feel less anxious and stressed.

I’m sure this list will continue to grow, but these are a few things that have helped me lately. Keep

Be safe and stay healthy, everyone!
